Jewelry Design in Silver Metal Clay

Although just gaining widespread popularity as of late, this exciting new form of "metal clay" was actually developed in Japan over 14 years ago. After several years of testing, scientists introduced an amazingly pliable, moist, clay like substance consisting of tiny microscopic flakes of silver, water and an organic binder.

The clay can be shaped and molded while wet, or worked dry for filing, sanding or carving. When the dried clay pieces are fired, the tiny particles of metal fuse together, the binder burns away, and the result is solid .999 fine metal silver. This new medium has opened the doors to limitless creative possibilities for the emergence of new metal art.
